Galatians Part 4
In this message, Pastor Robert explores the image Paul uses of an heir who is still a child. Even though the inheritance belongs to him, he lives under guardians and managers until the appointed time. Pastor Robert explains that this reflects life under the law. Before Christ, people were like children under supervision. But when the fullness of time came, God sent his Son to redeem those under the law so that we might receive adoption as sons and daughters.
He speaks warmly about adoption, emphasizing that believers are not merely forgiven servants but welcomed children. The Spirit cries out within us, “Abba, Father.” Pastor Robert draws attention to the intimacy and security of that relationship. We are no longer slaves but heirs. Returning to legalism would be like an adopted child choosing to go back to servitude. It does not make sense in light of what Christ has accomplished.
Paul’s personal concern for the Galatians also comes through strongly. Pastor Robert notes how Paul appeals to their shared history and affection. He reminds them how they once received him gladly. The shift toward law observance grieves him because it threatens their freedom. Pastor Robert encourages listeners to guard that freedom carefully and to remain grounded in the grace that first brought them into God’s family.
